Father, Reveal My Scribal Purpose To Me?

If I were to ask you why you write, what would you say? I've heard writers say, "I write because it is who I am and what I do. I just don't know what I would do if I couldn't write." The other answer I've heard is; "I write to encourage others and to glorify God."

While these reasons are spoken from the heart of a scribe, they only scratch the surface of God's plans for us. We are doing a whole lot more than just writing or even encouraging others. Whenever I am asked that question, now that I know and understand God's purpose for scribal ministry, I often say: "I write because I must. The book of Acts must continue to be written, and there must be a continuous written witness to the gospel for the generations to come."

As I studied the scriptures the Lord began to unfold my "scribal purpose" and reveal - on a greater level - that He was unwrapping a remnant of "word warriors' to engage in "scribal warfare" in the earth realm. Our written and spoken words would transform the minds and hearts of men for Christ - combating all of the negative influences currently seeping into our homes and communities. We are powerful!

Let's face it! There will be many people who will not understand your scribal ministry. Many will consider what the Lord has put on the inside of you as just a "cute and nice" talent. They will ask you to perform and entertain. Some will even try to prostitute your administrative and instructional writing gifts, but I tell you, when you go into these arenas that lack understanding - the Spirit of the Living God will rise on the inside of you and the words you release will be engraved forever on the hearts of men.

In this season, you owe it to yourself to not only find out who you are as a scribe in Jesus Christ, but you must also understand God's purpose for your calling. I beseech you to know that; "Your are not limited to seasonal poetry, wedding receptions and holiday plays! You are not limited to publishing parables or stories on the love of God and simply selling books! There is so much more to who you are!" God doesn't operate on man's timetable or patterns and traditions; and neither should you. Jesus has to be your center focus - no one or nothing else. It doesn't matter what "people think'' or how they perceive your ministry to be. What does matter is your response to your scribal calling. Will you answer Him or will you answer man?

This scribal walk of pure ministry will not be easy - but it WILL BE worth it. Seeing just one person impacted by your ministry is enough. Drawing just one scribe from performance and entertainment and into the arms for the Lord is enough. Your obedience will inspire other scribes to come up, and come out of their hiding places. The words the Lord will speak through you will bring salvation, deliverance and healing. The scribal direction and instruction that he will give you will set the foundation for businesses and ministries to be birthed, and when all is said and done, you will have pleased Him.

The Unveiling

There are more than 200 passages of scripture that relate to scribes or writing in the Holy Bible. In studying these passages and learning more about biblical scribes, I soon realized that the ministry of the scribe operates on three levels. By this I simply mean that there are three types of anointings that the present day scribe has the ability to tap into. They are the gifts of (1) administrative writing; (2) instructional writing, and (3) creative writing. Briefly, I want to go through each one of these based on where we are today as a result of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. I challenge you to find your scribal ministry hidden in one, two or ALL these categories. As you pray this short prayer in Jesus' Name: "Reveal my scribal purpose to me oh Lord."

Administrative Writing - Administrative Scribes are gifted to write administrative documents that include, but are not limited to, business letters, policies, procedures, contracts, grants, historical documents, record keeping etc. They have a passion to write these types of documents as this is a critical need in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Instructional Writing - Instructional scribes are gifted to teach, breaking down the word of God for the purpose of bringing clarity and understanding. Scribes anointed in this area write curriculums, books of instruction, workbooks, etc. These curriculums are, however, inspired by the Lord to meet specific needs within the body. Often times, the scribes are anointed to not only write these documents but to teach them.

Creative Writing - Creative scribes are God's worshippers, praisers and warriors who demonstrate God's word through poetry, spoken word, inspirational writing, plays, novels, journalism and other forms of literary creativity. Their heart, however, is not one of performance but one of pure ministry.

If you do not remember anything else that I share with you, I pray that you remember this next statement. "By answering your scribal call to ministry and walking in the scribal purpose that the Lord has placed before you, you are paving the way for those generations of scribes who will walk in your footsteps. You want to leave them a legacy of hope, love and reconciliation. Their journey will be a little bit easier because you have tilled the ground and planted seed into it. Now they can rise and reap the harvest."
